Field Service versus Drop-Off Service
How to choose the best service solution for your business
In most cases, field service is the first thing people think of when a machine needs service and/or parts replaced. When the machine goes down, you pickup the phone and call to request service and wait for the technician to arrive. If all goes well, the machine is repaired on the spot and in the same day.
The above scenario is carried out everyday by our technicians for our local customers in Illinois, Michigan, Missouri and Wisconsin. In a matter of hours, one of our local technicians arrive at your facility, quickly diagnoses the problem(s) and within an hour, can have your machine up and running so you can finish the work.
However, there are situations where you may want to drop-off or ship your machine to our repair facility for repair instead. The most common reasons include:
- Extensive work required that cannot be completed in a single day
- Machine is located outside our local service area
- Your local service provider lacks the service capabilities to properly repair the machine
Extensive work may include machines that have many missing, broken or badly worn parts, but also machines that simply haven't had good preventative maintenance performed on them lately or even never. We provide both services at our repair facility as well as upgrades, electrical repair and/or modifications to existing equipment for new application needs.
When is Drop-Off Service more cost effective than Field Service?
An example to ship the machines below 250 miles using common carriers like UPS or Holland for freight deliveries.
- Tabletop Machine, boxed, 18" L x 18" W x 24" H, 100 lbs: $100.40 Round-trip
- Floor Model Machine, skidded and wrapped, 96" L x 48" W x 48" H, 500 lbs: $345.16 Round-trip
In this case, the shipping charges would be less than having a technician travel for onsite service. In addition, the repair facility hourly rate for service is less than the onsite rate, which provides another savings.
